STEM Summer Camp includes MInecraft Challenges
@ Renaissance Charter at Wellington - July 9-27, 2018
When I am speaking with potential parents about camp I am often asked, "How many campers do you have in each camp?" More often than not, I get surprised looks when I reveal that we have small numbers in our camps.
As a parent of three - very different - children I have always struggled with where to send my kids for summer camp. One day, while searching for a great camp for my son, I realized that I was looking for a camp that I would love, and not necessarily one that he would love. Here is the story of that revelation.
When I think back to the days when I was in school, April and May were always the best months - leading up to the summer. Baseball season was starting up, the days were longer, the weather was warmer, and summer - if you stood on your very tippy toes - you could see summer coming up! Ok, the last part was made up, but we really used to think that we could see the next day if we climbed a tree or stood on the roof.
While STEM activities, camps and programs are popping up everywhere it's important to note that not all of them are equal. Some of these camps and activities are incredibly well thought out, with the idea that every child learns differently, and every child has different interests. I would call those "child-centered."
Hi! My name is Talia and I’m eight years old. So my older brother was on a robotics team at Young Makers Lab but I wasn’t interested in that or other “STEM” classes…I thought. My schedule is busy with ballet, music lessons, girl scouts and school and friends.
